There are many adjectives that could be used to describe our very first “Arms Around Greenwood” on April 17, 2016, but none of them would be enough. Glorious, happy, thankful, beautiful, giving, sharing, loving, spiritual, great, marvelous. None describe it better than just saying it was “God’s Day.” I want to thank our congregation for embracing this new experience for our Church.
We had over 200 people join us for breakfast and worship and about 175 going out into the Greenwood community and helping others. Check out the AAG photos on the GUMC Facebook page!
My team leaders were the best: Tim Golden, Krystal Green, Ken Fritsche, Bill and Evelyn Lewelling, McKenzie Turner, Dana Higgins, Kay Sewell, Rebecca Sewell, Sharon Kenny, Jaclynn Werner, Jeremy and Jaime Napier, Don and Joan Oliver, and Gail Gilmore. Thanks to Mary Webb for getting all the cookies together for distribution. Thanks to Jan Dunn for going to all the service areas and taking pictures. Laura Witherington and Becky Kittell did a great job with our publicity. Also, a big thank you to Melanie Woody for ordering and distributing the t-shirts. A huge thank you to Robin and Mike Cohea for furnishing and preparing the breakfast. Thank you to Waylen Bailey for the lovely floral arrangements for the school cafeteria workers. Pastor Craig and the office staff were so supportive, thank you. Thank you to EVERYONE of you who helped make Arms Around Greenwood a success!
I hope this will be an annual project for Greenwood United Methodist Church and the Greenwood community. I’ll close with Galatians 5 verses 13-14, “You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love. For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
Thank you again for a great day! ~ Sharon Griffin, Host Team Leader
The GUMC family would like to, in turn, thank Sharon Griffin for her diligence, dedication and countless hours of preparation for AAG. Bless you for helping pull it all together.
